The Reverend C. Albert Guyer

     The Reverend C. Albert Guyer, 95, of Martinsburg, passed away on February 28, 2022 at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center - Roaring Spring. He was born on September 27, 1926 in New Enterprise; son of the late John Lawrence and Ethel Loreen (Davis) Guyer. On August 24, 1949 he was united in marriage to Hazel Irene (Beard) Guyer; she preceded him in death in September 2014. 

     Albert was a Class of 1944 graduate from Replogle High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from McPherson College and his Master of Divinity Degree from Bethany Theological Seminary. Between his High School and College years, Albert worked on one of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Agency ships that carried horses and cattle to war-torn Poland.

     Albert served as pastor at churches in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Colorado. He served as chaplain for Woodville State Hospital, South Mountain Restoration Center, and Quincy United Methodist Home. He acted as interim pastor for Greentree Church of the Brethren, Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, Prince of Peace Church of the Brethren, and Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.

      Albert was a member of the Koontz Church of the Brethren and the national AARP. He enjoyed restoring antique cars, singing in church choirs and the Mercersburg Community Chorus, and traveling the world.

      Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; brothers, Frank A. and John L. Guyer; and sisters, Betty L. Heck and Pauline C. Kagarise. Surviving is son C. Stephen Guyer of Denver, CO; son, Paul L. Guyer and wife Donna of Fishers, IN; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Albert spent his final years at Homewood in Martinsburg. There he renewed his connection with a dear friend of his youth, Mary Lois Smith. She was a great source of companionship, love, and support.

     Friends will be received on Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 4:00-7:00PM at the Stone Funeral Home in Woodbury and Monday, March 7, 2022 from 10:00 until the 11:00AM Funeral Service at the Koontz Church of the Brethren. Pastor Eric Poteat will be officiating. Interment will be in Koontz Cemetery.
