Anna Lois (Feather) Hostetter
March 30, 1928 - November 13, 2022
Anna Lois (Feather) Hostetter, resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022, after a brief illness.
Lois was born March 30, 1928, in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late J. Howard and Mary (Stoner) Feather. On July 28, 1951, she married J. Norman Hostetter of Clarence Center, New York.
Surviving are her husband, Norman, son Jay Hostetter of Albany, New York, and daughter Kim (Alex) Hagan of Cary, North Carolina; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Harold, and two sisters, Arlene Martin and Eunice Hostetter.
Lois was a 1945 graduate of Morrison Cove High School and a 1951 graduate of Houghton College. She taught secondary English in both North Carolina and New York. She also served as a substitute teacher and teacher’s aide. She enjoyed music, reading, sewing, and domestic and international travel. She kept extensive family records, created genealogies and beautiful family scrapbooks. Lois was a master at word games, crosswords, and puzzles, unmatched by anyone in her family. And she was perhaps the most well-read person her family ever knew. But her greatest passion was her grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Lois had a strong Christian faith and was devoted to God and her church. She taught Sunday School, sang in church choirs for many years, and also played the piano and organ in her local church in Clarence Center, New York. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Roaring Spring. Prior to returning to Martinsburg to live at Homewood, Lois and Norman enjoyed many years of retirement in DeLand, Florida, where they were active members of First United Methodist Church, and also in Cary, North Carolina, where they attended Edenton Street United Methodist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Homewood at Martinsburg, in the Assisted Lifestyle Center and the Springfield Skilled Nursing Center, for their excellent care. The family would also like to thank the Homewood community and all of their mother’s many friends for their outpouring of sympathy and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
