Linda Bassler Obituary

Linda L. (Dodson) Bassler

April 7, 1951 – January 30, 2022

Our hearts were broken on January 30th, 2022, as we had to say goodbye to the best mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend that existed in this lifetime. She left us to meet her Savior and to reunite with her husband Gary, who left us just one month ago. The last words she spoke were “I love you”, which will be the hardest words for us to never hear from her again. We feel so fortunate that we were placed with her in this life. She cherished every second with her family and had a very special and individualized relationship with each one of us.

She was born on April 7th,1951 in Hopewell, Pennsylvania. She married Gary on November 9th, 1968. She attended Tussey Mountain High School, Class of 1969. She was baptized on September 1st,1974. She graduated from Altoona School of Commerce in 1984, and then enrolled in coursework to complete her bachelor’s degree while working full-time. She established a career at several companies, including North American Communications, Giant Foods and Valk Manufacturing Company. She eventually retired from Valk as the corporate controller.

In her younger years, she enjoyed boating, camping, visiting with friends and participating in anything that her children and Gary had planned. In her later years, she eagerly anticipated going on yearly family beach trips, having weekly family dinners and attending all the activities that the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in.

She is survived by her son Scott Bassler and fiancée Lori Chamberlain of Woodbury, PA and her daughter Dawn Bassler-Howard and husband Michael of Frostburg, MD. She is also survived by her grandchildren Breah Boor and spouse Adam of Cary, NC, Alexis Corl and spouse Jordan of Martinsburg, PA, Dillon Bassler and spouse Alicia of Martinsburg, PA, Lydia Claar and long term partner Russell of Frostburg, MD and Reis Howard of Frostburg, MD. Her great-grandchildren include Raelynn and Addyson Corl and Harlee and Oaklee Bassler. She leaves behind her sisters Nancy Brown, Deb Dasher and Jean Walters, as well as her brothers Bobby, Frank, and Bill Dodson. She also leaves behind a very special cousin and friend Michael Domenick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, who died on December 30th, 2021. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Twilla and Paul Dodson, and her siblings Carol, Paul Jr., and Richard Dodson.

Her patience, honesty and expressions of love were precious gifts to this family. She was always available to make your favorite food or to just talk and encourage you. Those meals and conversations will be deeply missed. We love you and know that we have a beautiful angel watching over us now and forever.

There will be a private viewing for immediate family only. A combined memorial service to celebrate Linda and Gary’s lives and memory will be held at a later date for all family and friends.
