John H. Gable, 87, of Hollidaysburg, formerly of Roaring Spring, passed away on January 8, 2023. He was born on September 22, 1935 in Bellwood; son of the late Kenneth A. and Agnes Marie (Najduch) Gable. On April 19, 1959 at the Woodbury Church of the Brethren, he was united in marriage to V. Grace (Lego) Gable, who survives.
John was a graduate of Woodbury High School and a member of the Woodbury Church of the Brethren. He served on many committees at the church and as head usher. John was employed in the shipping and receiving department at F.L. Smithe Machine Company in Duncansville for 35 years.
John served his country as a member of the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division. He was active duty from 1958 to 1965. During this time, he was stationed in Fort Bragg, NC and Germany, completed over 100 jumps, and received many awards and commendations. John then served 28 years in the Altoona and Johnstown Army Reserves.
John enjoyed bus trips to Alaska and Nova Scotia, volunteering and cabin building at Camp Blue Diamond, woodworking, making and building Christmas decorations and light displays, and was a member of the Church of the Brethren Bicycle Club.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth R., Robert, and James; and sister, Madeline. Surviving is his wife, V. Grace; daughter, Juliana Roberts (Billy Pfeffer) of Altoona; daughter, Judith Behrendt (Alan) of Rockaway Township, NJ; grandchildren, Jonathan (Margaret), Jordan (Lynne), Alyssa, and Andrew; brother, William Gable (Wanda); and sister, Nancy Gable.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 10:00AM until the 11:00AM funeral service at the Woodbury Church of the Brethren; Pastor David Ulm will be officiating. Interment will be in Dry Hill Cemetery.
