Jessie Juanita (Winter) Jarrett, 98, of New Enterprise, passed away on October 6, 2022 at home. She was born on March 7, 1924 in Six Mile Run; daughter of the late Harry Blair and Edith Gertrude (Defibaugh) Winter. On November 21, 1946 in Cumberland, Maryland, she was united in marriage to Edgar M. Jarrett Sr.; he preceded her in death on November 20, 1999.
Jessie worked as a supply tech at the Letterkenny Army Depot and was a member of the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren. She volunteered with both the church auxiliary as well as the Southern Cove Fire Company Auxiliary. Jessie enjoyed family gatherings, sewing, crocheting, dancing, open houses to the neighborhood, and bus trips with her auxiliary friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Sr.; daughter, Francis M. Smith; grandsons, Todd and Troy Smith; and great-grandsons, Jeremiah A. Jarrett and Weston A. Garland. Jessie was the last surviving child of her family, being preceded in death by 13 siblings.
Surviving is daughter, Linda Thomas (Carl) of Dagsboro, DE; daughter, Dixie Ebersole (Paul) of New Enterprise; son, Edgar M. “Bub” Jarrett, Jr. (Karen) of Fort Loudon; son, Allen L. Jarrett of Yellow Creek; son, Harry B. Jarrett (Vickie) of New Enterprise; son-in-law, William D. Smith; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 10:00AM until the 11:00AM funeral service at the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren; pastor Tim Guyer will be officiating. Interment will be in the New Enterprise Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions in Jessie’s name can be made to the Southern Cove Fire Company or the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren.
