George Hershberger Obituary

George P. Hershberger, 94, of Woodbury, passed away on December 10, 2022 at home. He was born on September 8, 1928 in New Enterprise; the oldest son of the late Ross and Cleo (Detwiler) Hershberger.

On August 11, 1950 at the Raven Run Church of the Brethren, he was united in marriage to Wilda (Hoover) Hershberger, who survives.

George was a Class of 1948 graduate of Replogle High School and worked for New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. for over 45 years. He operated crane for 21 years and after studying engineering, served 24 years as a Highway and Bridge Superintendent.

George served the community in numerous ways. He was a Certified Water Operator for Woodbury Borough and the surrounding area for 30 plus years. He served on the Northern Bedford School Board for 12 years, holding the title of Vice President. He was a member of the New Enterprise Quarter Club, serving as President and Vice President.

George was a member of the Woodbury Church of the Brethren. Throughout the years, he served in capacities such as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He made many trips with the Brethren Disaster Ministries.

George liked helping people and especially enjoyed woodworking projects for family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, John, Max, and Bob Hershberger.

Surviving is his wife, Wilda; son, Terry Hershberger and wife Marlys (Witkovsky); grandchildren, Jeremy Hershberger, Stephen Hershberger (Emily), Natalie Hershberger, and Nathan Hershberger (Stephanie); 5 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Lois Kyper and Jerry Lee Hershberger.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 from 9:00AM until the 11:00AM funeral service at the Woodbury Church of the Brethren; Pastor David Ulm and Reverend Larry Graybill will be officiating. Interment will be in Dry Hill Cemetery.
