David J. Metzger (1948-2020)

On the afternoon of Sunday, December 27th, 2020, surrounded by his beloved wife and children, David J. Metzger (72) was called to his eternal home in heaven by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

David was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, unto George Metzger and wife Carolyn (Weighaman) on July 3rd, 1948. He graduated from Altoona High School in 1966, and served in the United States Navy where he specialized in Underwater Demolition. While on leave, during the summer of 1969, his life was forever changed when he met his future wife and soulmate, Catherine. (Kennedy) Upon honorable discharge from the military, David enrolled, attended, and graduated from Penn State University in 1972. Shortly following his graduation, he and Catherine were married on July 8th, 1972.

David is survived by his aforementioned wife Catherine, daughter Rachel and her husband Stephen Ellenberger, son Jacob and his wife Jacqueline, (Martin) a very special grandson Silas Ellenberger, and his sister Brenda and her husband Mark Yeager. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Dresden Ellenberger, for whom with he is now gloriously reunited. David loved animals, and is also survived by his beloved hound-dog Ellie, and his five cats; Possum, Dexter, Dusty, Squirty and Sammy.

David was an extremely talented and multi-faceted craftsman, as well as a skilled artist, passionate musician, avid outdoorsman, historian, and most recently, cigar aficionado. He provided an abundance of mentorship, direction and loving inspiration to many friends and family throughout his life. Some even consider him as their hero, and his presence will undoubtably be missed by everyone who loved him so deeply.
