Obituary

     Albert “Sam” “Poppy” S. Mellott, 76, of Woodbury, passed away on June 22, 2023 at the Hollidaysburg Lutheran Home. He was born on March 4, 1947 in Roaring Spring; son of the late Albert and Alverna (Shaw) Mellott. On December 5, 1970 at the Altoona CMA he was united in marriage to Kathy J. (Lightner) Mellott.

     Sam was a Class of 1965 graduate of Northern Bedford High School and member of the Waterside Church of the Brethren. He served his country as a member of the United States Army; stationed in Germany as a mechanic during the Vietnam War. Sam was employed as a machine operator at Fonda in Williamsburg for 36 years. He was a “fixer” of all things and had a fondness for dogs.

     Sam was preceded in death by siblings Paul Mellott and Juda Horne. Surviving is his wife, Kathy J. Mellott; son, Frederick M. Mellott (wife, Amy, whom Sam considered his daughter) of New Enterprise; grandsons, Tobias A. Mellott of Los Angeles, CA and Cy M. Mellott (Whitley) of New Enterprise; and siblings, Betty Lou Eshelman of Newark, DE; Richard Mellott of Larkspur, CA; Dennis Mellott (Jennifer) of New Castle, DE; Jeffrey Mellott (Deb) of Loysburg; Dianna Mellott (Mark) of Richardsville, VA; and Joseph Mellott (Rebecca Ann) of Burlington, WV.

     Friends will be received on Monday, June 26, 2023 from 5:00PM-8:00PM and Tuesday, June 27, 2023 from 10:00AM until the 11:00AM Funeral Service; Pastor Eric Poteat officiating. All of the above will be held at the Waterside Church of the Brethren.

     Interment will be in Dry Hill Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Bedford County Honor Guard.

     If so desired, Memorial Contributions in Albert’s name may be made to the Waterside Church of the Brethren.
