Albert "Bud" Shaffer Obituary

Albert “Bud” Shaffer, 98, a resident of Graystone Manor Altoona, formerly of Juniata Gap, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 29, 2024. He was born in Harrisburg, PA on May 10, 1925 to William R. Shaffer and Bertha (Keller) Shaffer.

Albert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, siblings, and devoted wife, Janet Shaffer, whom he married on May 2, 1953. He is survived by his two sons, William (Diana) Shaffer of Altoona, PA, and David (Gwen Vredevoogd) Shaffer of Marshall, VA; his grandchildren, Kristen (Kristopher) Fedeli of Mars, PA, Stephen (Jenna) Shaffer of Canonsburg, PA, Camila Escobar of Silver Spring, MD, and Madeline Lambelet of Livingston Manor, NY. He was also loved by his five great-grandchildren: Drew, Lucas, Maya, Gianna, and Nova.

Albert was a graduate of Altoona Area High School. He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the Air Corps in the China, Burma, India Theatre. He was employed with the National Radiator Company, The Atlantic Refining Company, and retired from Conrail Corporation. Albert was also a member of the American Legion and a charter member of the Bernard Good VFW Post 8685.

Albert enjoyed spending time reading and watching sports, especially baseball. He loved watching and talking about the Pirates with his sons and grandson. He delighted in recounting stories of his upbringing in Juniata and particularly enjoyed driving around his old routes, reminiscing about the time spent with friends, playing baseball, and growing up.

Albert’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Elias Rifka and the staff at Graystone Manor Altoona for the compassionate care they rendered to Albert and Janet during their time there.

At Albert’s request, there will be no viewing, and a private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
